Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to be a Baptist to worship at Southland?
The people who make up Southland Baptist Church are a warm and caring group who would love for you to join them this Sunday for worship. While we are a Baptist church, we have worshipers from a great variety of religious backgrounds and walks of life. Wherever you find yourself in your spiritual journey, you will discover that there's a place for you at Southland to be transformed, nurtured, and sent.
Where are you located?
Southland Baptist Church Building is located on the southwest portion of Loop 306, between Southwest Blvd. and College Hills Blvd. Our address is: 4300 Meadow Creek Trl, San Angelo, TX 76904-6399.
What should I wear?
Folks at Southland come in all sorts of clothes. A few wear coats and ties (though not in the summer - it's way too hot for a tie in July!). Some wear cowboy boots and jeans. You'll see women in dresses and pants. In other words, you can wear what you like and still feel right at home at Southland.
Are there programs for my kids?
Of course! We love children at Southland. We've got a great nursery and children's area. All of our workers have been trained and gone through background checks. Our student ministry is a great place for teenagers. By all means, bring the kids, we've got a place for them and for you!
When do you observe the Lord's Supper? Who may participate?
We observe the Lord's Supper on the first Sunday of every month. We invite all those who have professed their faith in Jesus Christ to join us in observing Communion. You need not be a member of our church, or even a Baptist.
What style of music do you sing in worship?
Each week, we try to incorporate the best of traditional and contemporary hymns into our worship service. Our orchestra and choir provide ample opportunities for people to join in leading worship each week. Rehearsals are open to all.
What is Southland's view of women in the ministry?
Southland is a glad supporter of women in every aspect of the church's ministry. Southland has had female deacons and ministers for most of its history. For more on the biblical and theological reasons for Southland's position, follow the link to a helpful pamphlet by Dr. Todd Still, Professor of Christian Scriptures at George W. Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, Women in Ministry: Biblical, Theological, & Practical Reflections.
So what kind of a Baptist church are you?
We hope we are a Baptist church that's more identified by our deeds than our denominational commitments. That being said, we are proud partners with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, Texas Baptists, and the Concho Valley Baptist Association.
