5/10/18 A Message from Chris

Last week when I was in Sugar Land with my family, I was driving by our local neighborhood pond observing the ducks swimming.  I think I am noticing water more these days.  The ducks were moving gracefully across the water like there was not a care in the world.  As I pondered the ducks swimming (I realize most normal people don’t ponder ducks swimming), I was reminded that I only was observing what was taking place on top of the water.  Below the water, those little legs were moving as fast as they could, staying busy so I could observe what was taking place on top of the water.

In many ways, this reminded me of what takes place at church.  You might arrive on Sunday morning and witness a great worship service, a Biblical sermon, breakfast in your small group Bible Study, a building with a nice room set-up, and reports of ministry taking place all over our area and our world.  It is a “Grace Giving” Sunday when I am Southland Baptist Church.

However, when I noticed those ducks, I was reminded of all the work of church that takes place under the water where no one notices what is taking place.  The preparation of our Bible Study teachers, the work of our committees and ministry divisions, the choir rehearsal to perfect the beautiful worship song, the deacons visiting the hospitals during the week, the preschool workers having the fun object lesson for our little ones, the making sure the new pastor has all he needs.  There are a lot of legs moving as fast as they can to do the work of the Kingdom of God.  So as I approach the last sermon in our Kingdom of God sermon series, May I tell you “Thank You”.  Thank you for being the body of Christ.  Thank you for bringing the kingdom of God to San Angelo.  Thank you for being partners together in sharing the life changing news of Jesus Christ.

Grace and Peace,
